Ducati GP17 and the Aerodynamic Battle

#MotoGP #Winglets
Interesting comments made by Ducati GP Boss Paolo Ciabatti when asked if Ducati has any plans to unveil new fairing/winglet designs prior to the start of the season, particularly at the upcoming Qatar test.
“I think you won’t see anything new…in Qatar for the test or for the race. We’re going to stay with the conventional fairings.”
Funny – the manufacturers and riders have consistently denied any substantial improvement from the addition of winglets. Now, seemingly, all but Ducati are revealing clever ways to work around the winglet ban; maybe they were more important after all? It will be interesting to see if Ducati does, indeed, start the first race without them.
As for the “lunchbox” modification to the rear tail section of the GP17 – rumors are swirling about what it could be. One suggestion is that there is a gyroscopic system inside the tailpiece. Curious about how it would work.
Not much longer now! Enjoy some World Superbike from Phillip Island starting this evening. http://www.worldsbk.com/
