MotoGP FP2 about to get underway!

Weather will definitely continue to have an impact as reports indicated a hailstorm (in the desert!) which occurred earlier in the day. Wind is the main issue now.

Rain is expected at the moment for Sunday’s racing. Will competition get underway? Always a possibility – but Dorna has dealt with this in the past by delaying racing until the following Monday. (Racing in the wet is STILL a possibility for MotoGP – not Moto2/3 – if rain occurs.)

My gut feeling is that the GP riders will complain of poor visibility / reflections if rain does occur Sunday and the entire paddock will race Monday. Just a hunch.

Ducati GP17 and the Aerodynamic Battle

#MotoGP #Winglets
Interesting comments made by Ducati GP Boss Paolo Ciabatti when asked if Ducati has any plans to unveil new fairing/winglet designs prior to the start of the season, particularly at the upcoming Qatar test.
“I think you won’t see anything new…in Qatar for the test or for the race. We’re going to stay with the conventional fairings.”
Funny – the manufacturers and riders have consistently denied any substantial improvement from the addition of winglets. Now, seemingly, all but Ducati are revealing clever ways to work around the winglet ban; maybe they were more important after all? It will be interesting to see if Ducati does, indeed, start the first race without them.
As for the “lunchbox” modification to the rear tail section of the GP17 – rumors are swirling about what it could be. One suggestion is that there is a gyroscopic system inside the tailpiece. Curious about how it would work.
Not much longer now! Enjoy some World Superbike from Phillip Island starting this evening. http://www.worldsbk.com/

Moto Friends!

Another piece of information confirming preference for/usage of caged roller style bearings (as opposed to tapered) in the steering head for race applications! This is a screen capture from MotoGP Sepang Test Day 2.

Going back to OEM on my Suzuki – new tires this weekend as well! Michelin Pilot Road 4s for daily road use!

Sepang Test – Sunday Jan 29th – 9PM EST

Watching BeINSports’/Dorna’s coverage of the final Valencia test at the end of 2016 – very generous coverage indeed. It will be good to see the changes made over the winter when testing resumes in 3 days time – 8:00PM CST for those of you planning on tuning in (MotoGP.com).
